The
2006 Homeless Watch survey will take place from Monday 25th
September – Sunday 8th October and will be the third
annual snapshot survey of homelessness in Nottinghamshire. Homeless
Watch is now a key source of information about homelessness in the
county and information from the survey has been used to influence
plans and strategies, and even more importantly to make the case for
services, such as the winter shelters that were set up in Worksop and
Mansfield last winter.
During 2007-8 all local authorities will be completing the review of their homelessness strategies and Homeless Watch will provide them with information that will help to shape their strategies for the future. The Homeless Watch survey is carried out on behalf of all of the local authorities in Nottinghamshire, including Nottingham City and is overseen by a steering group consisting of representatives from each of the local authorities across the County, as well as Nottinghamshire County Council, Supporting People, the Rural Community Council and HLG.
We would like even more organisations than last year to take part to help us to get the widest possible perspective on homelessness in Nottinghamshire. Invitations are currently being sent out inviting organisations to take part in this year’s survey and we would urge all organisations to sign up to take part, even if you do not see many homeless people. Completing the survey form is mainly a tick box exercise and only takes a few minutes per person
The main report for this year’s survey is due to be published in February 2007 and we will be preparing summary reports for each of the eight district authorities in the County as we did last year. The reports will help, in particular, to inform the reviews of local homelessness strategies, but will also inform the Supporting People strategies for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Given the importance being attached to the survey by the key statutory agencies, we need as many agencies as possible to take part in the survey. Remember, we are just as interested in those agencies which see no homeless people during the survey fortnight.
