Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults

Abuse can manifest itself in many forms, not only the sexual or violent exploitation of vulnerable adults, but can also incorporate inappropriate financial arrangements such as buying or selling goods; or the shunning of individuals who don't fit into a project or organisation.
Aim
This course will give participants the knowledge and understanding of how to safeguard vulnerable clients, how to recognise the signs of abuse and alert others if abuse is suspected.

Objectives
By the end of the course participants will;
• Know the social and legislative context of protecting vulnerable adults.
• Know the requirements and expectations contained in the Supporting People redrafted QAF standard C1.3 Safeguarding and Protection from Abuse.
• Understand who vulnerable adults are, how and why they are at risk.
• Know a range of signs and indicators that a vulnerable adult may be being abused.
• Know to whom they should report abuse and how to take immediate steps to protect a vulnerable adult.
• Know how to respond to and record allegations of abuse.
• Be aware of the Department of Health ‘No Secrets’ guidance and the expectations of the Supporting People QAF.
• Be aware of professional boundary issues.
• Have prepared an action plan to utilise the learning from the course.

The learning outcomes meet the underpinning knowledge requirements of NOS – HSC31, HSC34, HSC35, HSC 335 Contribute to the protection of individuals from harm and abuse.
