Managing Risk in Social Care

This course is designed to meet the needs of frontline staff with responsibility for conducting client risk assessments.

It will enable staff to understand the importance of risk assessment in their work, and to learn the key competencies to conduct efficient, high quality assessments. The course explores how to identify, eliminate risks, and importantly how staff can and should take appropriate and sustainable risks.

Please note that this course will not address environmental or building hazards such as COSHH and electrical safety regulations.

Objectives
By the end of the course participants will
:

• Know the risk management requirements and expectations contained in the Supporting People redrafted QAF standards
• Understand why Risk Assessment is an important tool in ensuring a safe working environment
• Understand the legal framework on managing risk
• Identify the key skills and processes needed to implement a risk assessment and risk management process
• Understand issues and responsibilities about confidentiality and partnership working
• Practice carrying out a client focused risk assessments that are safe and not risk adverse
• Know how to complete an efficient situational risk assessment to enable a range of events or activities to take place safely
• Identify organisational risk management strategies to safeguard vulnerable clients
• Understand the equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory practise implications of risk assessment
• Have developed a personal SMART action plan
