Roles and Responsibilities of Trustees

This is a course for those who are new to being trustees and for existing trustees who want to reassess their role and learn more about how to give and get the most from this rewarding but demanding experience. The course includes practical exercises and questions for participants to consider and discuss, developing a deeper understanding of what is involved in being a good trustee.

Course Content:
To understand how to work within a group of trustees to:
• set up and maintain the organisation’s vision and values
• think strategically and work together as a board
• be accountable, comply with the law and work within the limits of the governing document
• develop appropriate policies and procedures
• avoid conflicts of interest
• work within employment procedures, recruit and support staff
• oversee the finances of the organisation
• explore ideas for promoting the work of the organisation

Outcomes:
Participants will be equipped to contribute effectively to their organisation, to fulfil their role and meet their responsibilities.
