Managing Drugs in a Residential Setting
Course Aim:
Drug use in a residential setting is often cited as a major problem. This 2 day course will examine what the source of the problem is, what the nature of the problem is and what role drug use plays in our clients lives. It also examines how we can effectively respond to this dynamic in the light of the recent “Wintercomfort” ruling. There will be an assumption of a basic knowledge of drugs as the course will not cover what drugs are and their chemical effects.
Course Content:
• To review a model which locates the source of the problem, be it in the client, the residential setting or in society.
• To identify medical, lifestyle and management issues.
• To examine models and theories of effective intervention.
• To enable participants to assess the level of use their residential setting can tolerate and the necessary practical, policy and resource implications.
• To look at the implications of recent legislation changes ruling and how this will influence good practice.
• To examine all of the above in the light of equal opportunities and good practice.
