Introduction to Housing Law

This course will give staff the information they need to issue, manage and end occupancy agreements appropriately.

Please note that this course will not take participants through the detailed process of a court repossession hearing.

Aim

This course will give housing staff the required knowledge and skills to create and manage an occupancy agreement.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will know:

• The basic housing law governing occupancy agreements
• What terms are appropriate to use in an occupancy agreement
• How to correctly issue S21’s, NTQ’s. Licences and Tenancies
• The outline Court process necessary in gaining possession and the possible outcomes from such proceedings
• How to recognize when a tenant has relinquished/terminated their tenancy and when they have abandoned
• The law relating to ex-tenant possessions
• The working of Pre-Action Protocol for Rent Arrears
• Housing tenancy and disability the working of the Disability Discrimination Act and the effects of the ‘Romano’ case
