Introduction to Housing Law

This course will give staff the information they need to issue, manage and end tenancies appropriately.

Please note that this course will not take participants through the detailed process of a court repossession hearing. 

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will know:

• The basic housing law governing Tenancies & Licenses
• What terms are appropriate to use in an occupancy agreement
• How to correctly issue S21’s, NTQ’s. Licences and Tenancies
• The outline Court process necessary in gaining possession and the possible outcomes from such proceedings including tolerated trespass
• How to recognise when a tenant has relinquished/terminated their tenancy and when they have abandoned
• The law relating to ex-tenant possessions
• The working of Pre-Action Protocol for Rent Arrears
• Housing tenancy and disability the working of the Disability Discrimination Act and the effects of the ‘Romano’ case
