How to Prevent Evictions & Exclusions
Securing positive outcomes is the central objective of good supported housing practice. With the advent of formalised outcome frameworks, and an awareness of the need to demonstrate value for money the pressure is on organisations to demonstrate the effectiveness of their work.
This course is suitable for housing managers and staff working with all forms of tenure in supported housing. The course will give participants the knowledge and skills necessary to reduce the number of evictions or exclusions in their work, or in the circumstances were evictions or exclusions are unavoidable to ensure that the process is managed to best practice standards. The course will explore the requirements and expectations contained in the Supporting People redrafted QAF standard C1.4 Fair Access, Diversity and Inclusion.
Objectives
By the end of the course participants will:
• Know the requirements and expectations contained in the Supporting People redrafted QAF standard C1.4 Fair Access, Diversity and Inclusion.
• Understand the effects of exclusions on potential/current clients, staff and project outcomes.
• Understand the range of barriers that contribute to exclusions
• Know the equal opportunity/anti-discriminatory context of the exclusions process.
• Know how to plan to reduce exclusions using a process of good risk and needs management.
• Understand the key rights and responsibilities and legal protection for tenants/licensees and landlords under current housing law.
• Understand good practice in the recovery of rent arrears from clients and housing benefit departments.
• Know how to adopt a practical approach to partnership working to reduce exclusions.
• Know good practice in having a complaints and appeals process.
• Know best practice in the eviction process.
