Weekly Income Benefits For People Under 60 Who Are Not In Full Time Work This course looks at the wide range of benefits that can be paid to people aged under 60 if they are not in full time work. We cover claims by · people who are too sick or disabled to work, · carers looking after people with illnesses and disabilities · people who are looking for a job, · women who are pregnant or have recently given birth, and · lone parents of older children. We look at the wide range of non-means-tested benefits (flat rate benefits) as well as at means tested Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance and Child Tax Credit. The focus of this course is on understanding how to maximise the weekly income that is available to cover ordinary living expenses. This day covers a broad subject area focussing on the topics of most interest to the group. The aim is to promote understanding in a practical context - not to fill participants with detailed technical knowledge. Course Content Non-means-tested benefits – some benefits such as Incapacity Benefit, Carer’s Allowance or Maternity Allowance are paid at flat rates regardless of your income, savings or family circumstances. We begin by looking at the most common of these ‘flat rate’ benefits to see who can claim which Income Support and Jobseekers’ Allowance - these means tested benefits are intended to bring claimants incomes up to a very basic minimum level. We look at who can claim which and how they are worked out. Child Tax Credit – Income Support and JSA deal only with adults, claimants on low incomes who have children may also be able to claim Child Tax Credit. We briefly look at the rules of entitlement and see how the credit is worked out for claimants who are not also in full time work Housing Benefit and the Weekly Income Benefits – Although not covered in detail we see how Housing Benefit links to the range of Weekly Income Benefits
